Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV and AIDS attacks the immune system and often destroy its effectiveness. 

AIDS patients may develop certain cancers and serious infections of the lungs, skin or gastrointestinal or central nervous systems. It is caused by a virus called HIV. When it enters the blood, it can kill certain white blood cells that normally act to fight against bacteria. 

Causes of AIDS

The first phase of the infection is called "primary HIV infection." Those who are infected with this virus for more than half of people develop symptoms, generally around 15 to 45 days of infection.
