Fashion gurus on latest trends

This winter, we bring to you some of the most wearable and popular trends predicted by designers last year. Ethnic and western fusion Ashima of Ashima Leena says, “A mix of ethnic and western outfits is a big trend. We worked with a lot of brocade and velvets. Metallic tones, gota embroidery, paisleys, were used for embellishment. Short anarkali kurti paired with cowl dhoti pants and layering are other major trends."

Grey rules

Grey has become the new black this season. Sheeting of sequins is another cool trend. Designer Ashish Pandey says, “I did lot of pleating, rouching and pin-tucks on my dresses. Defined and exaggerated shoulders, besides a fitted waist, makes for a hot trend.”

 Length matters

Long jackets and robes are seeing a surge in sales. Similarly, volume continues to be a hit. Fringes and tassles featured in most designers’ collections. Ashish Parekh of Virtues says, “We have worked with deep blues and emerald greens and used origami and pleating techniques and marodi (intricate zari work) embroidery for our garments.”

High on waist

High waist has come back with a bang. Those tulip shaped dresses and skirts that are clinched at the waist and exaggerated on the hips are now a rage. Zipper detailing is huge, not only on dresses but on leggings as well. Designer Ruchira of Ekru says, “Men’s wear fabric used for women’s wear, such as tweed or lurex for detailing, are also a big trend.”
