India’s H1N1 death count 6 short of 1200


H1N1 status in the national capital According to health officials, with two more people falling prey to the viral disease, the number of deaths in the national capital touched 92. One of the victims was a young woman, while no details of the second casualty were available.

“A 33-year-old woman died at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital,” said Anjana Prakash, deputy nodal officer in charge of swine flu control in Delhi.

Meanwhile, two fresh cases of swine flu surfaced in Delhi taking the cumulative number of infections in the city so far to 9,636.

H1N1 related deaths across the nation Currently the highest number of deaths from individual states stands at 311 in Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat that accounts for 217 fatalities.

175 lives have been lost in Rajasthan, 141 in Karnataka, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 38 in Punjab, 36 in Kerala, 33 in Haryana, 20 in Madhya Pradesh, 18 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, eight each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, seven in Tamil Nadu, and six each in Chhattisgarh and Puducherry,

In addition, five have succumbed to the virus in Goa, three in Orissa, two each in Assam and Jammu & Kashmir and one in Mizoram.

H1N1 infections across the states To date, samples of 121806 persons have been tested for the Influenza both in government and private laboratories, with 23.4 percent of them testing positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, 36 new indigenous cases surfaced from various states. These included 14 in Maharashtra, nine in Gujarat, three in Uttar Pradesh, two each in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and one each in Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and Chandigarh.
