Man arrested after police car crash

A man has been arrested after he crashed a stolen car into a police vehicle following a series of robberies in Sydney's northwest, police say.

A man entered a home in Warumbui Avenue, Baulkham Hills, about 10am (AEDT) on Tuesday and assaulted a man before stealing his car, police said.

About an hour later the same man is believed to have threatened a woman with a knife on Cropley Drive, Baulkham Hills, and fled in her car.

Just 20 minutes later, he allegedly threatened a girl with a knife in Wandella Road at Northmead.

He then sped off in her green Nissan Pulsar, before crashing into a highway patrol car near Windsor Road, police said.

After a short foot chase, the man was arrested behind a service station, where police seized a knife.

The man is being questioned at Castle Hill police station and police are still searching for two of the cars reported stolen.

He will also be questioned over robberies at five chemists, three of which allegedly involved car jackings, and other armed robberies across the city since January 9, police say.

Police said the man could be linked to the theft of four cars in Sydney's east in less than an hour on Monday.
