What are the factors that led to this marginal decrease in CAT 2009 records? IIMs cite uncertain economic climate as the reason. Dr. Deodhar said, "This year, candidates probably noticed the effect on wages and employment due to economic slowdown."
"As far as the educational backgrounds of the candidates is 65 percent owned Engineering / Technology / Architecture, Commerce / Economics / Management students is 23 percent, Arts and Science students are three and seven percent respectively," informed Dr Deodhar .
According to Dr. Deodhar, 26 percent of CAT 2009 applicants are female candidates. In total, 71 percent of the candidates has more than six months experience.
A total of 82 registrants per cent are from the general category, while 11 percent belongs to the NC and OBC category.
IIMs, however, bullish on the implementation of computerized CAT exam from this year. Dr. Deodhar informed MBAUniverse that while the total number of registrations is lower this year, there is no incomplete applications. "This year there has been no request rejections due to incomplete information. This was possible because of online registration and the EDIT facility. In this context, the answer to computerized CAT been very encouraging," Dr. Deodhar exclaimed.
Dr. Deodhar also announced that IIMs will be to provide special assistance to 763 applicants belonging to a second-abled (EN) category. These candidates will be given tools such as 'screen magnification glasses' and 'Abacus'. "We offer these facilities for the first time," said Dr. Deodhar.
