The Indian Premier League's (IPL's) third season is more than a month away, but its troubles seem to be multiplying by the day.
Shortly after the Shiv Sena's warning against the presence of Australian cricketers in Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh sports minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Wednesday threatened to force the local franchisee of Deccan Chargers to boycott the tournament if IPL takes away the matches allotted to Hyderabad.
The minister had claimed on Tuesday that he had "reliable information" from organisers that, in addition to the inaugural match, four other games allotted to the Andhra capital were being moved out. This, he said, was unacceptable to the people of the state, particularly after Telangana activists and the state government had given assurances of incident-free games. Komatireddy met chief minister K Rosaiah during the day to discuss the follow-up action if Hyderabad lost the chance to host these games.
Komatireddy's outburst wasn't surprising as this was the third instance of matches slated for Hyderabad being shifted out in last one month. Two One-day Internationals between Indian and Englishwomen and the South Zone One-day tournament for the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy had to be moved to other centres because of the 'T' trouble.
