BCS National Championship

BCS National Championship Game is the ultimate college football bowl games of the year, rounding of the annual Bowl Championship Series. The Bowl Championship Series title game will decide which school football team is this year's NCAA Division I FBA National Football Championships. BCS title game was first played after the 1998 college football regular season when the Pac-10 and Big Ten conferences and the Rose Bowl and ending with the Bowl Alliance to form the Bowl Championship Series.


Unlike other collegiate championships BCS National Championship is not played in a tournament or play format. Instead, Bowl Championship Series is a system where college football teams are placed in relation to each other, and the two best teams at the end of the season are invited to a bowl game to determine a national champion. The current BCS ranking formula using a combination of human voter opinion polls and computer rankings. There are many critics of the BCS format, with references where college football team has gone undefeated and was ranked number 1 in the Associated Press poll was omitted from the National Championship game. For example, in 2004, undefeated Auburn Tigers and the University of Utah Utes team were both excluded from the championship game.


USA Today Coaches Poll is required to name the winner of the BCS title game as National Champion in the final vote of the season. The winner of the game is distributed on both afca National Championship Trophy and the National Football Foundation's MacArthur Bowl National Championship Trophy.

 
The precursor to the Bowl Championship Series Bowl Coalition was formed through an agreement between a college football bowl games to determine a national champion and deliver quality bowl game for the champions of the participating companies conferences. The bowl coalition lasted from 1992-1994, and consisted of only five conferences: SEC, Big 8, Southwest, ACC and Big East. The Bowl Coalition also consisted of six bowl games: Orange, Sugar, Cotton, Fiesta, Gator and Hancock bowls.


From 1995-1997, the Bowl Alliance college football national champion. The Bowl Alliance officially replaced the Bowl Coalition, and included the SEC, Big 12, ACC and Big East conferences.

BCS awarded charitable status.


1970


BCS receives its weapons, including shield and crest.


1976


HRH The Duke of Kent is the patron of the BCS.


1982-3



HRH The Duke of Kent is chairman of the BCS.


25th anniversary of the BCS: membership has grown from 1,300 to 27,000 and the number of branches has increased from 13 to 42


1984


BCS is incorporated by Royal Charter as a chartered body.


1985


BCS designated agency Engineering Council.


1989


BCS is a Chartered Engineering Institution.


1996


The Engineering Council to issue permits BCS Chartered Engineer status (CEng).


2003


An extraordinary general meeting is held to discuss changes in the BCS charter and regulations, 97% of eligible members vote in favor of change. Changes approved by the Privy Council.


2004


The Science Council licenses BCS to award Chartered Scientist status (CSci). Charter and Bye-law changes were enacted. Establishment of the Chartered IT Professional status (CITP).


2007


BCS will mark its 50th anniversary: the company has grown to more than 50,000 members, 40 UK branches and 15 international branches. 


2009

BCS undergoes a transformation to adapt to the changing global arena of IT and to improve what it can offer its members. Changes include a modern new corporate identity, internal restructuring and a review of BCS Qualifications and Chartered IT Professional status to keep them relevant to the ever changing world Computing.
