Ghost Riders in the Sky Song

Ghost Riders in the Sky is a country song composed in cowboy style in 1948 by Stan Jones. Little did he saw what a hit his song would be, as there have been dozens of rewrites and versions over the decades. Ghost Riders in the Sky is a visionary song about a cowboy who sees cattle with red eyes hunted by ghost cowboys in the sky. He warned to change his lifestyle or risk of being one of them as a punishment for all his evil deeds. The song has strong echoes of European myths, and it certainly has a great artistic to do.

Ghost Riders in the Sky has become a classic by now, and almost all the big names in country music made an attempt at interpretation. Moreover, it appears that the famous band The Doors took their inspiration from the Ghost Riders in the Sky song, since they created their Riders on the storm hit. From all versions of the song was the one recorded by Vaughn Monroe in 1949, the most popular benefit the first place in the Billboard charts of the year and keep this position for not less than twenty two weeks.

Ghost Riders in the Sky was performed in the movie Blues Brothers 2000, and it was even taken as a source of inspiration, as a German heavy metal band. Along the years made other rock bands attempts to adapt the original country song for the more aggressive sound and lyrics of rock music, and they had varying degrees of success. Beside rewrites, new versions and source of inspiration, also Ghost Riders in the Sky fueled all sorts of parodies from Ghost Writers in Disguise political commitment lyrics that some listeners may not even be aware of.

An Irish parody version of Ghost Riders in the Sky refers to the destruction of British helicopters which IRA members, although no such violence has ever taken place. Whatever the political costs that can be added to Ghost Riders in the Sky, the majority of the performers can not see such an interpretation of the text, and sing the song without any reference to terrorist activity or Republican figures. Last but not least, Ghost Riders in the Sky also served as the basis for the creation of some football songs by fans. But beyond all the restore, it is clearly evident that Ghost Riders in the Sky made history in the history of country music.
