Golf Writers to Boycott Today’s Talk

The association was offered three spots in the room in the clubhouse at the T.P.C. at Sawgrass, where Woods planned to issue his first public statement in nearly three months. The board of directors for the 950-member organization of golf writers, editors and broadcasters voted overwhelmingly to boycott the event. Three spots were also given to reporters from The Associated Press, Reuters and Bloomberg News Service. Those organizations accepted the spots.

A number of other credentialed reporters will be a mile away in a ballroom at the Marriott Sawgrass, outside the east gate of the PGA Tour complex, watching Woods on television. They will not be permitted inside the gates, nor can they ask questions of Woods.

The president of the G.W.A.A., Vartan Kupelian, said, “To limit the ability of journalists to attend, listen, see and question Woods goes against the grain of everything we believe.”
