When you slug 35 home runs, drive in more than 100 runs and bat above .300 in a season, you can get away with a wardrobe malfunction.
Hence, a rather demure Adam Lind broke out a pair of gaudy, rainbow-coloured sneakers last week at the Bobby Mattick Training Center, where the Toronto Blue Jays are holding their spring camp.
“You dress in the dark this morning?” Blue Jays bench coach Nick Leyva cracked at Lind.
Lind just ignored the comment but admitted later his fiancée wouldn't let him wear the shoes until recently.
It turns out Lind, who is sponsored by Reebok, designed the sneakers last year as part of a promotion by the athletic apparel company for major-league baseball's all-star game.
This season, Lind has designs of a much grander scale – to continue the successful hitting partnership he formed with second baseman Aaron Hill in 2009.
