IPL matches to be shown live in theatres

For the first time in the history of Indian sports, cricket lovers can now watch live matches of the IPL on gigantic screens in cinema halls across India beginning on March 12.With UFO-Movies deciding to show the IPL matches live on gigantic screens in cinema halls across India, cricket fans will be able to watch live matches in their neighbouring theatres and enjoy the stadium-like atmosphere.

The matches will be screened in high definition digital format without commercial interruptions.

Theatres are also expected to create tailor-made season tickets in various combinations for their prospective viewers. Joint Managing Director of UFO Movies India Limited, Kapil Agarwal, while talking to media people here today said, "We are proud to introduce this pioneering concept of bringing live IPL matches across Indian theatres."

"We have targeted of showcasing the IPL across 1,000 cinemas. As no major Bollywood films will be releasing during this IPL, this will serve as profitable alternative revenue generating entertainment content for the exhibitors," he added.

The theatres will have cricket-related merchandises, gifts; multi-cuisine food stalls. To add to this excitement, a number of screening places will have cheer leaders and live bands to make a perfect live-match like environment. "Celebrities from different walks of life will also visit the cinema halls to cheer the teams," Kapil said.

"UFO, which has more than 1700 digital screens across India, has tied up with Crown Infotainment, which holds the distributing rights for IPL season three, to introduce matches in theatres," he added. So far the company has signed over 550 screens, out of which close to 200 are multiplexes.
