Parrot Toys

Before you buy a toy for your bird you should consider the use of the toy, the size of the toy, the location / cage, where the toy will be, the material / safety of toys, preferences and / or fear it would cause your bird .

The use of toys (what should I buy toys?)

There are so many different types of parrot toys on the market today it's hard to choose which one would be right for your bird.

Your bird should be at least one toy to trim its beak with even a budgie would prefer a beak balm mineral type block than a wooden toy. A single budgie or a Cockatiel probably also need a mirror, it is not advisable to put a mirror in a cage in a large parrot.

preened over a parrot might need a good shade to toys, so it spends more time preening than the toy itself.

In your bird cage should be at least a toy to chew (wood) and a toy to preen.
The size of the toy versus the size of your bird You have to choose a toy your bird can play with.

It's just common sense not to buy a budgie toys for a large parrot, and not to choose a large wooden toys for budgie when he would not be able to shred or play with the toy, if he could use it to perch and attack it occasionally, what great fun for a little budgie!
The size of the place / cage, where the toys will be Some owners put too many toys in their parrot cage, the bird can not move further for fear of bumping into one of its toys. Your bird cage is not a toy store.

Material and the safety of toys

Any wooden toys should only be the fruit or vegetable painted. You can test this by passing a wet finger on the tree, if the color is printed on your finger, so I suppose it is fruit or vegetable painted.

Zinc is toxic, however all metal traces of zinc to be toxic high levels of zinc would be present.

Most parrot toys, has a chain attached to them to be able to hang toys in the cage. The chains with welded links are safe for your pet, while those with closed links are not safe. The parrot can open (un-welded) closed links, which its beak could get stuck. While trying to break free, the parrot may get hurt. So you must carefully examine the chains attached to the parrot toys.

There are also some toys with 'soft bells "which are dangerous for large parrots, remove these bells as your bird can shred them and swallow bits of metal.

Rope type toys are fun, but if the rope is for your bird to perch so make sure it is not too soft, so your bird does not tangle loose bits.

Personally I would not buy yarn, rope type (load network), they look great and safe fun, but they are very dangerous to your bird throat can be cut.

The preferences and the fear of your birds like parrots, some children prefer to play with wood, some other type of cotton material. Birds are also very sensitive to colors.

You have to observe your bird to see what their preferences are, otherwise the toy will be in the corner of the cage untouched.

Many birds are afraid of large objects, and certain colors, they are indeed birds and live in fear that they are caught by predators, and it's not fun to see your mother or father to accept a predator into your home. If this is so, then you might need to put the toy in a distance for the bird to see it in a few days until he knows there is no danger. It would also help if you are playing with the toy itself to prove that your bird is ok, that is if you have a close relationship with your bird.
