No matter what kind of bird you have as a pet, there is a lot of important things that most people overlook when it comes to their care. Proper pet bird care is something that every bird owner should be informed.
One of the most basic but important things to know is that the size of the bird determines the size of the cage. Some people buy cages that are actually too small for the birds they have, either because they are just cheaper or because they can not accommodate a larger cage. Keeping a pet bird in a cage that is too small, is detrimental to bird health. Birds are easily stressed when the cage and a cage that is too small, will certainly intensify stress level. Get a cage that the bird can move around and maybe able to effectively spread its wings to allow for exercise. Something bigger is a plus, and your bird will be very happy with it.
There have been many cases of a bird owner wake up one morning only to find his bird died for no apparent reason. The fact is that the bird had more than likely been sick for quite sometime, and the owner just did not feel it. Unless you keep a watchful eye on your bird, and know what to look for regarding the signs and symptoms of disease, it can easily go unnoticed. Birds have a way to hide the disease, and often times, by the time you begin to see signs that something is wrong, it is too late.
Birds are not for everyone, and if you do not have plans to get a guide book about caring for birds, or educate you about birds, it's probably best not to get one. Birds are very sensitive animals, both mentally and physically, and they require proper care around the clock to be happy and healthy.
