2010 Paris Fashion Week

Genius or kooky? You be the judge. Nicholas Ghesquière's extraordinary vision turned to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey for Winter '10, delving into geometric shapes, stiff fabrics, perforated detailing and boxy silhouettes for this retro-future inspired collection. Just when you think you've seen it all before, out come food packaging and biscuit inspired textures, newspaper-headlined prints and techniques so complex new machinery had to be sourced. Balancing the slightly off-beat pieces were utterly wearable pastels, neon-threaded knits, appliqued sleeved shifts and slim-line pants. Crazy beautiful.

The fuss wasn't limited to the runway though, with Australian beauties Miranda Kerr and Paris Fashion Week newbie Lauren Brown (Priscillas) walking for the fashion house. Front row guests including Anna Wintour, Lou Doillon, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Cléménce Poséy may have noticed the absence from a Vogue Paris representative, with Carine Roitfeld declaring them "blacklisted" from the fashion house. Roitfeld told WWD that Balenciaga no longer advertise or lend clothes to the magazine and that "she hopes it's not forever." Quelle horreur!
