ATS leaks details, alerts Pakistani handler

Infuriated by continuing leak of details of key arrests in Mumbai that alerted their Pakistani handler “Chacha”, the Centre asked the Maharashtra Government to penalise erring officials of its Anti-Terrorism Squad.

The Chacha with whom the arrested brothers-in-law - Abdul Latif alias Guddu and Riyaz Ali alias Rehan - were in touch with is reportedly Dawood Ibrahim aide Bashir Khan, accused of orchestrating the Mumbai serial blasts of 1993.

The central agencies were keeping a close tab on Bashir Khan’s movements by intercepting his phone calls. However, Bashir Khan went ‘silent’ once the ATS went public with the probe details thus leaving the central agencies with no option but to rue the lost connection.

The Maharashtra Government has been asked to ensure that stern action is taken against the official so that such incidents can be avoided, said Home Ministry sources. “We were expecting them to be quiet after the first mistake but yet again they have revealed more information by naming Bashir Khan’s name.
