Chargesheet filed against Andy Pag

The Ajmer Police on Friday filed a chargesheet against green traveller Andy Pag. Interestingly the chargesheet did not mention Section 70 of the Information Technology Act, which carries a sentence of 10 years. Cops had arrested Pag on January 11 under Section 4/20 of Telegraph Act, Section 3/6 of Wireless Act (both bailable) and section 70 of the Information Technology Act.

The TOI in its reports had questioned slamming of Section 70 of the IT Act on Andy, to which the cops had no satisfactory reply. A person who has hacked into a prohibited system can only be charged under this Act. The state government has not yet clearly defined which systems come under this category in the state.

Pag was not present for hearing on Friday. His counsel Prateek Kasliwal said Pag was relieved to hear that the chargesheet was filed and was eager to know the next course of action. "March 20 is the next date of hearing and the judge will pronounce the charges on that day. We hope that the case will be resolved at the earliest and we will abide by the order pronounced," said Kasliwal.
