Manipur director-general of police Yumnam Joykumar Singh today alerted all the superintendents of police and commanders of Manipur Rifle and India Reserve Battalion following a quit notice issued by militant Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF) to non-Manipuris living and working in Manipur.
The RPF, the political body of the People’s Liberation Army, yesterday issued a statement asking all the non-Manipuris who had come to Manipur after 1949 to leave the state by May 31.
The RPF, which has Maoist links, said it had taken the stand for the safety and welfare of the non-Manipuris.
The outfit said killing of innocent people by security forces, hiring labourers as agents for espionage and non-Manipuris’ control of the socio-economic and political life created hatred in the local people.
The statement issued by T. Leisemba, secretary publicity of the RPF, said the sporadic killings of non-Manipuris in the recent past were because of this hatred.
It said neither the government nor the RPF could protect the non-Manipuris.
So, it would be best for them to leave Manipur.
It also asked transporters not to bring in non-Manipuris, local people not to rent out rooms or sell land to them and also not to allow non-Manipuris to become heads of business houses.
