The Wonderful Basset Hound - A family favorite

The Wonderful Basset Hound is a dog that weighs an average of 60 pounds and around 13 "in height and fits into the category of a medium to large dog. Basset Hound is long and low and their height / weight ratio makes their already short legs to look even shorter. In fact, their name comes from the French word "bas" meaning low. 

They are without doubt one of the most loving, patient and gentle dog you could hope for, which is one of the reasons they fit so well into family life. Along with their keen sense of smell and hunting instints you will also find them great hunting companions. 

Recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1885, the usual colors for the Basset Hound Dog is a series of colors, but they are typically white with chestnut or sand colored markings. The fairly dense coat is short, straight and hard and lovely and smooth to the touch. Basset Hound grooming is easy and requires only soap and brush now and then. 

This mild, the dog is ideal for family life. They are excellent and patient with young children, although normal daily life does not include children. They are affectionate with their family and love being around them. They are great with other dogs and pets as well, although early socialization is good for non-dog pets because they can hunt them because of their hunting instinct. 

They are easy going and fairly inactive when they are inside, making them much opportunity for life, as they enjoy relaxing and around inside. They are more active outdoors and requires regular play, exercise and time to run. If you do not have a garden, so it is important to ensure that they are taking a trip on a daily basis. It is usually an easy task to educate them, but if they are on the trail of a scent, they will not pay any attention to you. For this reason, a fenced yard is best. Keep an eye on how much they eat, they can put on extra pounds quite easily, so give them plenty of exercise are important. 

Basset Hound originated in France and dates back hundreds of years. Their authorship can be traced back to the Bloodhound. Back in days, they were first and foremost hunting dogs use their extraordinary sense of smell to track their prey. Today you see them mostly as pets, but they are quite capable of the hunter and still used as such in certain places. 

Get the Basset Hound breed's gentle, forgiving, relaxed nature. They're perfect for busy family life and for those who just enjoy an occasional walk, provided the Basset Hound may have daily outside time. 

It does not matter if you have toddlers, young children or other animals, the lovely Basset Hound fits perfectly into any home.
