Focus on Australia - Tamborine Mountain

When it comes to natural beauty Worlwide destinations, Australia Mount Tamborine region ranked very high and with good reason.

Located about 60 miles south of State Queensland's capital Brisbane, Tamborine Mountain is a volcanic plateau set in Australia's Gold Coast hinterland.

The area is the result of an outflow of lava from nearby Mount Warning and this geological phenomenon created a plateau about 8 km long and 5 km wide that now sits 600 feet above sea level.

The many attractions in Mount Tamborine area include beautiful views that can be enjoyed on both sides of the interval, and the many craft and antique shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants that attracts thousands of tourists each season.

Tamborine Mountain is famous for its national parks. The Tamborine National Park covers eleven square miles of the mountain plateau and the foot and its oldest part, Witches Falls, was first declared in 1908, making it Queensland's oldest National Park. Over the years additional reserves have been declared days & Tamborine National Park covers 13 sections of land.

So why would you - quite literally - 'take a ride? "Well, first, the Tamborine National Park as a whole has much to offer hikers including sundappled picnic areas (many with BBQs), breath-taking lookouts and waterfalls, cliffs and canyons, sparkling rock pools and shady forests. The Park is also home to an astonishing 85 percent of all animal species and 65 percent of all plant species in Gold Coast City area.

Now that they are part of Tamborine's National Parks, these lush rainforest areas Piccabeen palm groves, wet eucalypt forests, sky scraping flooded gum and open spaces in ferns and fern, all are protected. This protection extends talso o cover its fauna, including - inter alia the rare Albert's Lyrebird and one of the world's largest ham, the glossy black and very generously proportioned Land Mullet. Richmond Birdwing butterfly whose husbands are a dazzling iridescent green and noisy Pittas, birds, hop on the rainforest floor in search of leeches and snails, both migrating seasonality in the park, making this a very important area of conservation.

Many believe that Witches Falls section of Tamborine's National Park is one of the most captivating to go. Its 3.1 km circuit starts from the picnic area on Main Western Road. This lawned picnic area has electric barbecues, tables, toilets and surrounded by soaring eucalypt.

Witches Falls Circuit snakes down a steep slope through the woods closed in a rainforest area, functions cycad groves. Cycads are the oldest plants on earth that still exists today and is known through fossil discoveries that have lived in the Permian era - over 200 million years ago - even before dinosaurs roamed the earth. Even when abundant across the globe, cycads are now greatly reduced in both number and distribution and much international attention has been drawn up to protect these plants are believed to be nearly eradicated.

While one way to waterfall you will come across shimmering lagoons, palm groves and huge strangler figs. After rain, filling lagoons with water and thrive on different species of frogs and insects. Witches Falls waterfall only flows following recent rain and can be seen by taking a short detour 200m from the circulation to a lookout platform. The trail then returns through the rainforest and ending behind the local cemetery.

For your own safety, go only during daylight hours and wear sturdy shoes, a hat, protective clothing and sunscreen. Take a cell phone and drinking creek water may contain organisms that can cause disease. At a normal walking pace, you can expect 3 km to take about an hour. If you go with young children, however, or if the plan to take photographs or bird watch along the way, allow extra time.
