Kuala Lumpur, July 7 (DPA) Malaysian customs police detained a 25-year-old Indian man and seized 25 kg of the drug ketamine, a news report said Tuesday. The narcotics division of the airport customs department discovered the drugs, worth about 450,000 ringgit ($121,621), hidden in two boxes supposedly containing printing paper from Tamil Nadu in India. Police detained two suspects, a 27-year-old local man and the Indian national, when the duo claimed the boxes early Friday, department director Zainul Abidin Taib was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency. The drugs were kept in 10 plastic packages, which were hidden within 116 reams of paper, he said. Police said the suspects would be remanded to investigate the link between a local and an Indian drug syndicate, adding that they would be charged with drug trafficking. Malaysia's tough drug laws prescribe the mandatory death sentence by hanging for those found guilty of trafficking most types of drugs.
