A Study of Vitamin Overdose

Vitamin Overdose

While vitamin-related overdose will rarely result in death it can still cause serious side effects. Some vitamins will produce less harmful when consumed in larger than expected quantities. You should still ensure that you are using dietary supplements as directed by your doctor, or as shown by the label on the vitamin container. Children are particularly vulnerable to an overdose of vitamins, because of this, you should save all the vitamins and other medicines away from children. To ensure that children will not access your vitamins, buy them with child-resistant caps.

The side effects of vitamin overdose will depend on the Vitamin that the person was using at the time of the overdose. Vitamins will be taken into account, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin C and vitamin E.

In cases of vitamin D overdose, someone has probably taken well over the recommended dose. The recommended intake is 400 Ius previous day but this figure rose to nearly ten times that amount. The new recommended intakes are currently 4000 - 5000 Ius. When vitamin D overdose happens a couple of similar symptoms that may follow.

• An individual may experience significant diarrhea.

• Some vomiting and nausea may be present.

• Feeling too tired is also very likely

• There may be some corresponding muscular weakness.

• feeling more thirsty than normal have been observed.

It is therefore imperative that you consult a doctor before taking vitamin D supplements. You will also need to consider how much sun you get in a regularbasis, your body make vitamin D when you get adequate amounts of sun exposure. Therefore, people who spend much of their days in the sun, should probably reconsider using vitamin D supplements.

Vitamin E overdose would include headache, vomiting, abdominal pain, gas, blurred vision, nausea, fatigue or extreme tiredness and an increased chance of internal bleeding. This can potentially decrease the body's ability to heal after wounding. Vitamin E overdose may occur in connection with amounts exceeding 400 Ius.

Symptoms of vitamin C overdose includediarrhoea, abdominal pain, increased stomach acid, increased urination, insomnia, headache, weakness, anemia, joint pain, PMS and hypoglycemia. Vitamin C overdose can occur in quantities exceeding 2000 mg.

Vitamin A overdose can occur when a person takes over 25,000 Ius of vitamin A. It can cause a deterioration of bones and skin and can also be accompanied by nausea, lethargy, hair loss, yellowing of the skin, drying of the lips, tiredness and vomiting. Large amounts of vitamin A is specifically contraindicated for pregnant women. High levels of retinol has the potential to cause birth defects in first trimester.
