Athletic Games

History:

Goes back to the ancient Greeks, athletics was the only competition to be held in the first Olympics held in Athens in 776 BC. At the time, was the only athletic event called "pull" a foot race, which covered the length of the Athens Olympic stadium.

 
The Olympic Games continue to take place in Athens every four years, with all the wars, suspended for the duration of the game. Over time, more events were added to the old games, including long distance running, discus and javelin, jumping and wrestling. The Roman Games is also a form of athletics, even though the events favored by the Romans were chariot racing, wrestling, and most importantly, gladiator battles, and also the Celts, Germans and Goths also participated in the form of athletic combat.


Athletics became more diverse during the Middle Ages, when the sons of noblemen were trained in running, jumping and wrestling, and there was often athletic contests between rival nobility. In the nineteenth century began the modern arrangements, known in athletics today to emerge, first as a part of a formal physical activity in schools.


Schools began to organize competitive meetings that took place at Exeter College in Oxford in 1850. The first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896, athletics was the central element of the game, with the competition divided into sporting events. In 1928 further progress when women were allowed to participate in sports competitions for the first time.


An international governing body of athletics, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which was established in 1912, which developed into a series of international standards, rules and competitions, which has governed the sport ever since. Today there are many events that constitute the sport of athletics. The contest, which most of these events at a 400 m track or insider knowledge on a grass field. These tracks are located in an indoor or outdoor stadium, depending on the season.


Track Events:


Running events up to 10000m in the distance is conducted at a 400 m track, which is outdoors during the summer competition and indoors in winter. The track is made with a rubber surface to improve grip and reduce the risk of slipping during bad weather. The track is an elongated oval shape, consisting of a semicircle at each end or two straight segments joining the semi-circles together.


The trail is divided into six to ten lanes, which circle around a single field that is used for throwing and jumping events. Each set is assigned a lane at the start of the race starting blocks at the beginning of the race, even though the athletes have an obligation to remain in the lane for the duration of the race depends on the distance run.


The winner of all races conducted on the track is the first person who crosses the finish line. If it happens that leg, head or feet to cross the line before a second participant torso a win is not counted. A runner is disqualified from a race if they make two false starts, which are counted if they leave the starting blocks before the starting gun is fired. Running events on the track is divided into different categories, characterized by distance running. The categories are: short-distance races, middle distance races and long distance races.
