Backstage tickets are the coveted passes to all wish they had when their favorite band or artist plays, but not many people realize that almost anyone can get them if they know what they're doing that is. If you were not lucky enough to win them on the radio, there are still a number of different ways you can go about hooking yourself up.
You can start by trying to get a media ranging from your local media. Call the editor of your local paper and offer to cover the show for free, in exchange for passing and byline. Editor's accustomed to this kind of requests, so you want to come across as an experienced professional, and obviously doing a good job with the interview, so they will use you again in the future.
If your local media is not receptive to your offer, you can appeal to the company promoting the show. If it is still a no go, try contacting the sponsors of the show and see if you can figure out some kind of promotional offers in exchange for access.
Along the lines of business sponsors, you can try to get a job as a sales representative for a company that will have products available for sale at the exhibition. Granted, it is not directly backstage access, but it gives you an excuse to get there early and stay late, hoping to find a friendship with the people who can get you up close and personal with the band.
Alternatively, you can just show up during sound checks under the guise of stage crew for helping to create. Many times, artists have set time to kill before the show and may be more forthcoming than afterwards, when all they want to do is get away from the crowd.
Of course there are a number of other methods that you can use to go about getting backstage tickets, but these are some of the more rock safe routes available. With a little strategic thinking and a bit of luck, you may find yourself exactly where you want to be when the focus takes the stage!
