City-based firm expands business

From a modest beginning in 1960 when it manufactured hydraulic jacks, a Patna-based company—Vankos & Company—has expanded its business

manifold in the last 50 years and has become one of the major suppliers to defence establishments, railways and airlines.

Celebrating its golden jubilee on February 19 this year, the company boasts of manufacturing a variety of products, including hydraulic cylinders, cranes, pullers, lifting tables, rams and other related equipment. These equipment are supplied to heavy engineering, mining, cement and paper industries, dockyards and Indian nuclear plants. The company also exports its products.

“Our golden jubilee celebrations symbolises the survival and growth of smallscale industry in Bihar despite all odds,” Vankos chairman Shabbir Hussain said.

He said that having started with four machines and a handful of employees, the company at present boasts of more than 100 machines and 200 employees. Vankos & Company has sales offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
