Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Monday sought to put the record straight on his sudden trip to the houses of terror accused in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, by stating that the party’s young general secretary, Rahul Gandhi, was in the know.
Digvijay was at the receiving end at the Congress Working Committee meeting. So he clarified that he had gone on the fact-finding mission, not on his own volition but with the approval of Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. “She knew about it and I had discussed it with Rahul,” he said.
Lest the visit seen as an quixotic trip to an area which had been branded as a ‘terror hotbed’ by security agencies, Digvijay Singh said that he was expected to submit a report to the Congress president on Tuesday or Wednesday. After which, the government would be apprised of his findings.
