How to help your sick Parrot

Pet parrots can become sick like any other bird. They are very fragile. A sick parrot will do their best to hide their illness, in contrast to many other pets.

Most of the time, wild, sick birds prey for predators. Other times, for keeping the group safe, they are kicked out of the flock of their fellow birds.

It is very important to keep an eye on your parrot. A small change in behavior or appearance of your bird may already be a very drastic and fatal switch to him by the time you notice it.

If you notice any such changes then it is very important to immediately bring it to the attention of your veterinarian. If you are unable to find a veterinarian right away you have to be able to take care of your parrot properly. During this time, there are a few things to remember.

1. Keep your bird warm: The basic and most important advice is to keep the bird warm. When the bird is sick, he loses his ability to keep warm.

Be very certain that no air gaps are at your bird. If you can not manage to reach room temperature so high it is better to buy a sun lamp heater from one of your local pet shops.
The red glow of light is not distract or keep your bird awake, but helps to keep them quiet and warm. Also make sure that the light is far enough away that your parrot will not come into contact with it accidentally.

2. Seated problem: If your sick parrot is seated concern then it is best advised to place it in a hospital cage. Hospital cages are smaller than conventional battery cages, but still have the food bowls, one perch and water.

An aquarium made of glass seems strange, because it gives them a solid platform to sit on and help in a better thermal insulation. Also remember that the heat only one side so that if one side gets too hot so your parrot can move to the other side.

3. Hydrate: When they are sick birds easily loose strength. They also become dehydrated, and it is important to keep water levels in their body up to as high a level as possible.
You can give them Depilate solution, it helps in many cases. See if the bird will take it or not, use a pipette to feed him the solution. Be aware that you are not pressing his mouth open or force too much at once.

4. Bleeding: If your pet is bleeding, you must first find the source. In most cases, it has a tendency to get out of nails, feathers or beaks.

If the nail is only chipped off, then apply styptic powder. In a case when it breaks a blood feather, it is almost impossible to make it stop. Pull the feathers from the bottom of the bone. Before you do this wrap a towel around it. So get him checked by a veterinarian as quickly as possible.

Even if this last treatment falls more under the category of first aid, it is necessary to know. All the above will help when you are dealing with a sick parrot.
