Teaching your parrot to talk is an exciting prospect! If you want to learn to show your bird to do this, read on ... Parrots have the ability to learn and repeat words if they are given training by someone they know and trust. Remember these important points to help you get started;
Begin training your parrot at a young age, like humans, each parrot retrieve words in a second rate. Start with something simple and build on it every day. For example, a word which has only one or two syllables, like 'Hello', could be a good start, so say it every time you greet your bird. You need to ensure that your parrot can not be distracted by other noises around them (ie television, make sure it is off).
Speak in a clear and calm voice, as it puts your bird at ease and make it easier for them to understand what they have to repeat. Continues slowly repeat the words you have chosen during training. Your bird will try to imitate that word, or at least make a sound. This is a positive start. Teach your parrot a word at a time, make sure they know how to say a word before you introduce a second.
Their courses should be regular, but short, your bird will be more inclined to stay focused for shorter periods. Ensure that you can train your parrot in a relaxed, familiar environment. Make your training sessions interesting and fun, rewarding your parrot to say words correctly, can give them an extra incentive.
The key is repetition, you must keep repeating the words you want your parrot to learn, to help them remember. It is also very important to be patient, you may not get frustrated if your bird does not learn at the rate you want. Remember to reward your parrot, after having successfully imitated a word will keep them motivated to learn. Give lots of praise and encouragement for your bird during training.
Chose a time to workout, when your bird is most active and attentive, they will have more concentration and will be more inclined to learn.
Parrots will find it easier if you learn those words in connection with what they do, why this is known as "learning by association, for example if you feed your bird, you could say 'dinner time'. They will soon make the connection between word and action.
Train your parrot to speak can be rewarding and an enjoyable experience, do not be discouraged if your bird does not learn to speak but only to ensure that you enjoy your time with them and in return you will provide a loving, strong bond.
If you are a success in teaching your bird to talk, you then want to extend this training to your parrot to answer questions. Good luck!
