Information About Cockatoos

There are 21 known species of Cockatoos. Cockatoos Cacatuidae bird belongs to the family and not regarded as a parrot. The geographic range of the Cockatoo species as a whole stretches north and south of Australia (their original habitat) to the Philippines and East and West from Singapore to Papua New Guinea.


Overall Cockatoos are larger on average, as a parrot. At 22-24 inches long Palm Cockatoo is the largest bird in the whole Cockatoo family. The smallest of all Cockatoos Cockatiel is only 8-12 inches long.


A Cockatiel only need a small cage, while a palm Cockatoo needs a medium to large cage. However, the size of a cage is not only based on the bird's size but also on the quantity of birds in one cage. Cockatoos drink plenty of water and need light to find the food, because they are daily.


Cockatoos are one of the surviving non-primates or reptile species known to man, with an average lifespan of 60-80 years for larger birds. Smaller birds such as Cockatiels have much shorter life span of only about 20 years, but 36 years is the maximum recorded. 
Like Macaws, Cockatoos is better at talking and squawking then requires a lot of attention. If you like the peaceful sound of chirping birds then a cockatoo is not the right pet for you, you may want to try a Finch. Cockatoos like music of all kinds, and some are able to beat indication.


Hand raised Cockatoos cost around $ 600 - $ 2000 USD. A hand raised Cockatoo is better compared to one at a pet store and is usually cheaper. To buy a cockatoo from a breeder who has their hand raised birds, which helps to destroy the black market trade Cockatoo. Like any other pet, you should always take all their needs into consideration before buying.
