The Macaw is my favorite of all parrots. There are 16 species of the Macaws, which are still alive. Almost all Caribbean species of Macaws are now extinct. But because of the lack of physical evidence, most Caribbean Macaw species can only be described as hypothetical extinct. Only two species of Macaw has proven to be extinct. Due to rapid deforestation and illegal trapping many macaws are endangered, endangered, extinct in the wild or even extinct.
Macaws parrots are very colorful birds, and even in the same species, their colors are as unique as a fingerprint. There is no direct color not found on a Macaw. Some species of Macaw parrot, each color in the rainbow, plus black and white.
Unlike other large birds Macaw is not a bird of prey, they like fruit, berries and nuts about nuts are not normally found in nature. Some of the fruits eaten by Macaws lacking the right nutrients, because they are not the right kind of fruit or not mature enough. There are plenty of tropical fruit and fruit seeds are toxic when fruit is ripe. It is believed that Macaw parrot will eat clay to neutralize the poisonous fruits and seeds to pass through the body without harming the bird.
Some of the Macaw species are known for their impressive size. The largest Macaw in length and wingspan is the Hyacinth Macaw weigh up to 4.4 pounds and up to 3 meters long with a wingspan of 4 to 4.5 meters. The heaviest is the Macaw Buffon weighing up to 6.6 pounds. Macaw parrots are not all great. The smallest is the red broad-shouldered Macaw and is only 12 to 14 inches long.
Macaws are wonderful birds to have, but pricey, ranging anywhere from $ 600 - $ 3000 USD. If you do what you need to buy a bird for companionship, Macaws are large. If you want a bird who will learn to talk, you may be disappointed. Macaws are better at talking and squawking can take over 5 years to learn to say a word, but if you are persistent and patient with a Macaw can begin to talk in as little as 2 to 3 years! Macaws require large cages, lots of care and is not for busy people.
At your death, you should always have, in writing, a statement about who you want your loved Macaw parrot to go to (for), depending on the species, Macaws can live as long as 60-80 years.
