The story of this castle in the sky once again show that people have a fascination with the heavens, and what is waiting out there, so little accessible to us, if deprived of technologies. We know that the action takes place sometime between the mid-19th century and early 20th century. The documentation of the history of Laputa the castle in the sky is fairly extensive given that it is pure fiction. There is air supremacy over other cities because the royal family of Laputa leave the castle in the air several times, not to mention that there are plenty of clues about the relationship between Lap tans and land distribution.

Since he created the image of the castle in the sky, Miyazaki found inspiration in the creation of a Welsh mining town, and this model was used for construction of buildings Laputa. Although the film dates back to 1986, DVD and video release was delayed to 2003. During the year, Laputa: Castle in the Sky was the second best selling DVD distributed by Disney for Spirited Away.
