Maoists refuse to release govt official

 Maoists in Jarkhand has on Monday (February 15) laid down demands for the release of a government officer who has been kidnapped.

They say if their demands are not met the officer will be killed in 7 days. The Maoists want naxals in jail released. They also want villagers who worked under the NREGA scheme be paid immediately.

On Saturday, Maoists abducted a Block Development Officer (BDO) from Dalbhumgarh village in East Jharkhand.

BDO Prashant Kumar Leyak was kidnapped in broad daylight. According to eyewitnesses, the Maoists came in seven bikes and abducted Leyak at gunpoint.

Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shibu Soren said that efforts are still on for the safe return of the BDO. Though Soren denied receiving any conditions for the release of Leyak from Maoists.
