Pakistan needs to improve standard of education

Being a developing country Pakistan needs to go a long way towards meeting the international standards of education and to groom the students to understand global environment, said Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday.

Gilani was addressing the second convocation of the Air University on Friday at the Convention Centre.

He said those who were literate must understand their roles as responsible citizens and participate effectively to increase the social capital of the country.

The prime minister said education played a pivotal role in the development of any economy. “Pakistan needs qualified engineers and effective managers, who could put in their best efforts to improve the technological and industrial output,” he said.

Gilani said education to every citizen of the country was a gigantic task. The government is making all out efforts to increase the literacy rate, he said.

“The institutions of higher learning, such as the Air University, are playing important role to meet the education standards is commendable,” said Gilani.

“We must become a self-reliant nation and a viable route to achieve this goal is collaboration with advanced countries to develop the technological expertise in Pakistan,” said the prime minister. He said the government was collaborating with China in various fields including defence and production of JF-17 Thunder Aircraft was an example.
