Pet Parrots Get one from a Rescue

Have you ever wanted to own a pet bird? Want to know what kind of bird you'd want to keep? Better yet, you should know what kind of bird would fit your lifestyle. Collecting some knowledge of birds would be a good first step in applying for one as a pet.

One thing you do not want to do is just walk into a pet store and fix one or two thousand U.S. dollars for your pet without knowing what you are. This is why there are so many pet parrots that are in rescue services today. Maintenance costs can be very high for the larger birds. Moreover, the necessary interaction with the bird being very demanding.

Unlike the smaller birds, finches, the Canary Islands and parakeets, the larger hook bills need to be shut out of their cages to interact and exercise. You can not just feed and water, one of these beautiful big bird, and leave it alone. Ever see a picture of a bald parrot? This is the main cause, the poor bird goes stir crazy and plucks his own feathers to have something to do.

Looking for a bird rescue will give you a chance to talk to people who are very knowledgeable about these beautiful big bird. They will not be able to answer any questions you may have.

They will also have many questions for you also. They will always make sure that any bird that is located in a new home will be cared for properly. They will be able to suggest the best species to suit your lifestyle and environment that you can give your new pet.
Some things to consider before looking for your potential new pet is:

If you live in an apartment that has more than one unit in what will these birds be very noisy. The larger the bird, the higher they can. We  had an Umbrella Cockatoo to scream so loud that you could not be in the same room, without hurting your ears. And this bird was a medium sized parrot.

You'll have to take into account the size of the cage that you need too. Together with a cage, you should have a bird play pen for the larger birds to play on. You need a large selection of toys for your bird too.

One more thing to know before you begin your journey to find your parrot is, can these birds be very destructive. Medium and large birds that can make short work of anything made of wood.  We  know someone who once had a Moluccan cockatoo, who chewed the whole corner out of a new bedroom dresser.

When you find a bird rescue, and go through the classes that they will require for adoption, you can take a bird on a trail period. This way you can live and interact with your new pet before committing full time.

By going through a parrot rescue center, you would have been very responsible to learn what it takes to care for your new parrot. You also get given one of these beautiful birds a good home and a new chance to be happy.
