Sikh beheading issue taken up with Pak

Condemning the beheading of a Sikh in Pakistan by the Taliban, foreign minister S M Krishna on Wednesday said in Rajya Sabha that the matter had been taken up with the Pakistan government. Krishna said that kidnapping and killing of Sikhs in Pakistan was a matter of "deep and serious concern'' for the government.

"I rise to strongly condemn the beheading of Sardar Jaspal Singh in the tribal areas of Pakistan. This barbaric and heinous crime is deplorable in the strongest possible terms. His abductors, reportedly the Taliban, committed the grave crime when his family was not able to pay ransom money to the abductors. We express our sincere condolences to the family of the victim,'' said Krishna who is scheduled to visit Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday.

Krishna said that Pakistan had promised stern action against the guilty.
