Volleyball - History

Volleyball-A History Not Too Old:

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world, drawing attention to sports buff over the world. See its not too old, old story; widespread popularity world seems incredible. This sport is barely one hundred and ten years old and has already gone through various stages of development.


The story begins with Mr. G. Morgan developed the original form of the sport in 1895. He called the game "Mintonette". This sport was originally designed to deliver entertainment to business people. Cradle volleyball was Masachussetts where Morgan used to work in Holyoke. Although the game was new in itself, Morgan combined various facets of other sports to make it playable. Network was introduced from tennis, but the height is raised above the height of the normal man. Some other ideas were taken from baseball and baseball.


Credit on the current name of the game goes to a spectator. While watching one of those games, supporters noted that the game is all about volleying the ball. It was the day when this game was baptized again as volleyball.

Ø In 1900, a special ball was designed for the sport.

Ø In 1949 the first World Cup was held in Prague, Czechoslovakia
Ø In 1964, Volleyball was introduced to the Olympics in Tokyo
Ø In 1965 formed the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA). 
Ø In 1974, the World Championships in Mexico were telecast in Japan
Ø In 1975 began the American National Women's teams year-round education in Pasadena, Texas (moved to Colorado Springs in 1979, Coto de Caza and Fountain Valley, CA in 1980, and San Diego, CA in 1985). 
Ø In 1977 began the U.S. National Men's teams year-round training in Dayton, Ohio (moved to San Diego, CA in 1981). 
Ø In 1983 formed the Association of Volleyball Professional (AVP). 
Ø In 1984 the U.S. won their first medals at the Olympics in Los Angeles. The men won gold and women Silverstone. 
Ø In 1986 formed the Women's Professional Volleyball Association (WPVA). 
Ø In 1988, reiterated the U.S. men gold in the Olympics in Korea
Ø In 1990 the World League was created. 
Ø In 1995, the sport of Volleyball 100 years old! 
Ø In 1996, 2-person beach volleyball will be an Olympic sport.
