Choosing the right name for your website

A lot of people before venturing out to find hosting services for their website, will already have a domain name in mind. In some cases you will want to use your company name as the website name. This makes logical sense as long as the company works well as a domain name too!

One of the most important things to remember when choosing your site's name is that this is a decision to be made very carefully because it is not easy to change the name afterwards without far-reaching consequences. Change of domain name can lead to loss of relationships, and progress in your SEO efforts.

It is imperative to keep your domain name as simple and brief, if possible. Avoid using the same letters side by side, as this could lead to a clerical error. A shorter, simpler domain name will be more effective and memorable in your on and offline marketing. If you are determined to use your business name, try and think of effective ways to shorten it. Maybe use a popular abbreviation of your company name, or just a piece of it, as long as it makes sense. An excellent idea that will help your Internet marketing efforts is to use one of its targeted keywords in your domain name.

Most good web hosting companies will have an online tool to help you with your domain name selection. That is, if you put in your required domain name and it is taken, it will display the nearest other options that are available. After choosing the actual domain name, you will have to decide what the enlargement would be best. Enlargements. Com,. Info,. Net and so on. (If your audience is international, so you would be best off to go a). Com extension. Although. Info is usually the cheapest domain extension to register, it's generally frowned upon in the online community, and not taken seriously. An Org extension is usually for non-profit or governmental organizations. If you target your own country audience so you can select your country specific extension such as. Co.uk the United Kingdom

Choosing the right name for your website need not be a very frightening experience, but when there could actually be fun!
