King Khan gets PWD nod, saves Eden block

Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan finally fielded himself to salvage his team from the muddle of controversies, leading almost to the demolition of the super hospitality block', a temporary gallery-block at Eden Gardens, on the eve of the IPL match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The fire brigade had asked the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to raze the structures for not conforming to fire safety norms.

The block, squeezed in between the under-construction Block B and the club house, is essentially made of wood.

On the other hand, PWD had asked KKR to make some modifications to obtain a no-objection-certificate (NOC). And, the city police had told KKR that they would allow people to enter the box only if PWD gave the NOC. A few hours before the match, Shah Rukh Khan himself called up PWD secretary A Bardhan and assured him that all necessary changes, as desired by PWD engineers, would be carried out after the March 16 match.
