The WiMAX Forum has slammed the US-based chipmaker, Qualcomm, for attempting to hoard scarce spectrum in India and has accused the
company of bidding for broadband access frequencies here for experimenting an untested technology.
Earlier this week, Qualcomm said it would bid for broadband wireless access (BWA) spectrum, and if successful, would introduce a technological platform called TD-LTE . Qualcomm submitted its bids for BWA spectrum in 2.3 GHz band to deploy TD-LTE , a technology which the company claims would facilitate interoperability of BWA with 3G and EVDO technology.
However, the WiMAX Forum has said it would take a few years for the US-based company to get this technology up and running for commercial use, as against WiMAX, which is at par with next generation technology 4G, and has already been globally accepted . While announcing its plans to bid for BWA, Qualcomm had also said it would exit the business in few years.
WiMAX already has a robust network of 300 affordable devices, 500 networks covering 800 million users in over 150 countries in APAC, Africa and Middle East.
