Maoists terror reign continues, 20 CRPF men killed

After a brief lull, Maoists unleashed a major attack on the security forces early this morning, killing 20 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and injuring 15 others between Chintalnar and Tademetla — in the heartland of Naxalite affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

“CRPF has lost 20 personnel in the ambush. Maoists attacked them from the hilltop”, Director General of Police Vishwaranjan told the Indian Express.

Amid unconfirmed reports about casualty figures crossing 55, CRPF Special DG Vijay Raman, who is coordinating the joint operations against Naxalites in seven states, told The Indian Express that he was not in a position confirm or deny the number of deaths " I am leaving for Dantewada after meeting with Chief Minister Raman Singh and Director General of state Police", he added.

Official sources said Chief Minister Raman Singh has convened a high level meeting of officials in the state capital to review the situation arising out of the major Maoist attack in Bastar.
