Mixed response from CBSE school principals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal’s announcement on making

standard X examination optional received a mixed response from the principals of CBSE schools.

Saraswathy Vidyalaya principal Gauri Nayar said that it was not wise to make standard X

examination optional. She said that it was after standard X that students had to choose their

stream of studies in the higher secondary-level.

The standard of a student could not be assessed merely by internal evaluation, she said. There are

chances that evaluation by teachers who taught the students to be subjective, she said.

The stream of a student has to be decided on the basis of his/her aptitude. The skills of the

students on subjects have to be assessed on the basis of an external evaluation, she said.
