With the Capital waiting for a complete makeover by next year, when the Commonwealth Games come to town, the city got a plan allocation of Rs 2,435 crore in the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday.
The Budget last year had allotted only Rs 841.56 crore to Delhi.
The Sheila Dikshit government, however, faced a setback of sorts as the Finance Minister announced that the UPA government has earmarked Rs 1,000 crore for building infrastructure ahead of the Commonwealth Games, scheduled next October. The government, it is learnt, was banking on more for the mega-event.
