All About The Magic Castle in Hollywood, California

Back to Basics - Things to know before you visit

A warning before you begin planning your visit to the Magic Castle: not everyone can participate. Because it is a private club for magicians and those who love magic, members (Magician members and associate members) pay for the privilege to participate as much as they want in a given year. For you, a non-member () to participate, you must know someone who is a member and have a guest go away. Or better yet, get them to take you with them. 

Participation in the Magic Castle is a formal affair. You would not be out of place in a tie and jacket (for men) or evening dress (for ladies) - in fact, it is required. What? You do not have a jacket, you say? Do not worry - at the reception, several jackets and ties it is possible for the evening, so you can be perfectly fine. But do not show up with running shoes or supposed to take your jacket off when you enter - it's just not done. Formula places require formal attire. 

The Magic Castle is located just north of the Kodak Theater. There is not much parking on the street, so expect to pay for Parking Services. It will run you less than ten bucks, a bargain in the neighborhood. 

Expect to have dinner in their finest restaurant, too. They have great food - many choices for those who love meat, seafood, or are vegetarians. Prices range from $ 28.00 to 65.00 dollars for an entrée, and there are plenty of "adult beverages" to be found at several bars throughout the castle. 

Once you are 

When you walk into the Magic Castle, you have to get past the receptionist by showing your identification of adulthood. If you are on a guest pass, present passport and pay the door fee - $ 20 each. They will also confirm your reservation for dinner that you called earlier. If you are having with a member, there is no door charge, and the dinner is optional. You will then be given the secret code word to be able to enter the door to the showrooms. 

As for the show, expects to be fully entertained. There are three major exhibition halls - the Close-up Gallery in the parlor of Prestidigitation, and the Palace of Mystery. It appears in the room that runs on a schedule and you'll want to be in line early to get into too many nights there are other magicians to entertain you in various other space - into the museum, or in the dungeon, or even traveling magicians to show you while you are in line for another show.
