Mexico to pour troops into drug war state

MORELIA, Mexico, July 16 (Reuters) - Mexico is sending 5,500 troops,
police and naval officers to a western state where a flare-up in drug gang
violence is posing a new challenge to President Felipe Calderon in his home state.
The surge, one of the biggest in the three-year drug war, will add to an
existing anti-drug force of several hundred troops and federal cops in
marijuana-producing Michoacan state, where heavily armed traffickers have
unleashed a wave of attacks on security forces in recent days.
