African gray parrots are smarter than the average 5: e Grader?

African Gray parrots did indeed originate in central Africa. In the parrot kingdom they are considered a medium-sized parrot, rising to between 10 and 14 inches long. There are two types of this kind. One is the Timneh African Gray, a dark charcoal-like gray and has a maroon tail. The second is the Congo African Gray, a lighter gray in color with a red tail.

As in many species of animals, females tend to be slightly smaller than males. They also tend to have a more slender neck and narrow head. Other than that, unlike many other species where the man is smarter and more colorful, color and appearance of both men and women are equal.

Considered by many to be both beautiful and intelligent, African gray parrots are also regarded as one of the easiest species of parrots to keep.

They are very bright and are known for their incredible talking and problem-solving. They are quite capable of developing a large vocabulary and African Gray owners claim that they have an excellent report with these extraordinary creatures.

Because African Grays can live up to 60 years if you want to own one, you must be prepared to make a long term commitment to them. Owners also need to be well trained, experienced, or both, so they are able to understand and meet their needs parrot.

Although this particular species of birds are very social and make great pets they can develop emphasized behavior or behavioral problems if they become lonely and bored. These birds need plenty of interaction and mental stimulation!

Sometimes even only small changes in their normal daily routines can lead to crankiness and / or acting out. The African Gray is a very sensitive creature!

Behavioral problems can include self-destructive behavior as feather plucking, excessive screaming or even bite. If you have small children, you may not want to leave them unattended with your parrot.

If your parrot is undisciplined, he can also exhibit bad behavior and get into lots of problems. Be sure not to reinforce the misbehavior because parrots tend to pick things up quickly. The downside of this is that they also learn good behavior quickly and are easy to train.

One of the reasons that African gray parrots make such great pets because they are very social birds. Although they are not too pleased with physical contact, they often appreciate having their heads scratched and being petted.

They can also reciprocate and show their love for you in some ways. Sometimes they try to "kiss" their owners on the lips. You want to take to do this because human saliva contains bacteria that are dangerous to birds. Regurgitating, also known as "feeding" your parrot is another sign of their devotion to you.

In the wild, this species of parrots demonstrate their preference for the company and their social personalities who flock together while tame parrots tend to make their human family a part of their flock.

When you adopt one of your family, you'll be hooked. You will not be able to imagine a life without African gray parrots!
