It is a Cockatiel, there are several unique things about this bird that makes it stand alone as one of the best feathered pet home. Not least is the fact that they are the second most popular bird chosen by new pet owners, and it is with good reason! 'Tiel is loving, intelligent and playful, which makes them good feathered friends for either novice or veteran bird lover.

Origin


Outback regions inland Australia was originally home to the colorful cockatiels that favored Bush lands, scrublands and wetlands in the outback country. Their beautiful feathers are a reminder of the beauty of the wild Australian countryside.


Species


Generally regarded as a part of the parrot family, recent molecular studies have determined the lack of clarity on their specific species. They are now classified as a part of the Cockatoo family and is the smallest of the Cacatuidae. But most people still refer to them as "parrots" but not entirely accurate. They are the only Cockatoo species to be able to possibly reproduce at the end of their first year of life.


Lifetime


'Tile generally live between 15-20 years, although there have been birds that have lived as long as 30 years. A documented cases lived in 36 years! Exercise and diet are major factors in determining the lifespan of cockatiels and they are in humans.


Temperament


These pleasant birds known for their sweet, loving demeanor. They are also very sociable and fascinating as they show their ability to socialize and be a part of the family. Actually, the one of the easiest birds to tame and train. They can also be quite rambunctious, opinionated, obnoxious and territorial if inexperienced and left to itself for long periods.


Never underestimate the need to spend time with your 'Tile or to train him properly. They need to be counted, handled, and played with everyday to be happy and healthy.


Colors


Cockatiels can be found in a variety of colors, which include Lutino (yellow), Gray, Pearl, Cinnamon, White Fact, Albino (white), and fallow. There is always a further attempt to create a new color of cockatiels which means that a 'Tile with a unique color turns out very often. This pique the interest of many bird lovers.

'Tiel may exhibit an almost human socialization features, if trained properly. Cockatiels can mimic sounds such as doorbells or telephone call. They can also whistle, talk or sing, but many prefer the measurement of noise that they hear in their environment. 'Tiel can also be trained to perform fascinating tricks to the delight of their owners.


They can become very attached to one particular person if that person is the only one to handle and feed him. To some it is a great comfort to others it is a nuisance because 'Tiel can display territorial aggression when others enter the room. It is up to you what type of attachments that you prefer for your companion ... you can easily train your bird to be friendly to everyone or just be your personal friend!
