Montek, Buddhadeb discuss Maoist violence

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia Thursday discussed the issue of Maoist violence with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Thursday while finalising the state's annual plan for 2010-11.

'We have discussed the issue (of Maoist violence),' Bhattacharjee told reporters when asked about the Maoist surge in the state.

He, however, refused to share any details about the budget allocations for fighting the leftist rebels.

'We have come here to discuss our annual plans,' Bhattacharjee said.

He also said that there is no major change in policy to fight Maoists in the state.

During a visit to the state's Lalgarh region April 5, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had asked Bhattacharjee to curb inter-party clashes in the state, as it would indicate a law and order problem.
