The directive issued on Friday says that mobile phones should be switched off or in vibration or silent mode in public places
NEW DELHI, INDIA: No doubt, mobile phone has become an indispensable part of our life – as a gadget, as a lifestyle statement and much more. But, sadly enough, those who are on mobile are least bothered about the nuisance it creates for others, especially when they are in public places.
So, finally the government has decided to go a step further and put some restrictions on the use of mobile phones, or maybe teach the mobile users the basic lessons on the "proper use of mobile phones".
"In the interest of the public and for the proper conduct of telegraph services, the licensor with immediate effect makes it obligatory on the part of all licensees to create awareness for the proper use of mobile phones," the Department of Telecom (DoT) said in a directive issued to the telecom service providers.
The directive issued on Friday says that mobile phones should be switched off or in vibration or silent mode in public places like hospitals, aircraft, places of worship, cinema halls and auditoriums.
The other directives include: they should not be used while driving; they should not be used to click photographs of people without their consent; and ring tones should not be set loud.
In order to make it sure that the mobile users adhere to the etiquettes, the DoT has also asked the service providers to provide literature on mobile etiquette in English and regional languages to any customer buying a mobile phone handset and a SIM card.
But how strict are we in obeying the rules is the question? We have all seen what happened to the ban of smoking in public places!
