Clicker Training for Birds - a fun activity to do together

Okay, now you got your first bird. It may be a Cockatiel, a macaw or a conjure. They are very intelligent birds who like to play with you and do tricks. But like everyone else, they still have a learning curve and they need you to provide adequate training to do what you want. They are like you. You can not read a textbook once and expect to remember everything. You have to read it again and again until you remember it. It's the same reason that you have to train your parrot several times and be patient before you see them do a trick.

One of the techniques for training a bird is clicking workout. Have a clicker is a sign of the bird. It is a form of communication. You can call it Pavlov's workout, but in reality we all need a signal to understand whether we did something right or wrong. The whole concept is that the more you exercise, the easier your parrot would understand. The clicker is used to signal a reward when an action is completed. In this case, we seek to use Millet or any of your parrot's favorite treat as a reward. Please do not give your parrot treat everything for no particular reason at this stage, otherwise it may confuse it.

One of the first tricks a parrot can learn, is a step up. Step up is the trick where you teach your bird how to step on your finger. Use a stick first. Do not use your finger. This process may take a little patience, because your pet may initially be afraid to step on your finger. The first step is to slowly bring your stick in front of the bird. Wait for your pet to enter the stalk. Now you have to do it carefully otherwise the bird could actually bite stick. Be patient, eventually it will step on the foot.

Be sure to use the clicker and give the bird the reward when you're done. But you can also do it in the process of getting it to stand on the stick. Each time it moves closer to it, use the clicker and give it a treat.

Over time, the bird will understand the trick and starts to associate stick with intensification. When you feel that the bird is comfortable, and be sure to use the clicker to remind the bird that there is a reward will be what it will do, so you can start to test with your finger. This proportion is probably much easier to do than with the stick, because now the bird is slowly getting used to act. You should still be cautious yourself. Keep it consistent and fast your bird will understand what to do.

You can use the click training for other activities. Just follow the same process and you will eventually achieve different results. Do not take ten hours per day. Do it gradually. You can not learn everything in one day and your bird can not. But after a while, you can certainly get your bird to do many tricks.
